Nancy Clayburgh has lived in Portsmouth for 35 years where she has been an elected official for 23 years (17 years on the Portsmouth School Board where she currently serves as School Board Chair and 6 years as a City Councilor, which she held the position of Assistant Mayor for two years). Nancy has served on numerous Boards throughout the years, including the Seacoast YMCA, NH Special Olympics, the Prescott Park Arts Festival, many school related organizations (PTA’s). She is a founding member of Friends in Action, established in 2000, which provides social and recreational opportunities for adults with disabilities. Nancy is the current President of One Sky Community Services, which provides services for adults and families with developmental disabilities. Additionally, Nancy is co-owner of Bow Wow Bones, which is a small business where adults with disabilities bake and package dog treats that are sold throughout the Seacoast.
Nancy grew up in Medford, MA and went to college in Boston, where she lived and worked in broadcast media until moving to Portsmouth in 1984. She has three adult children. Her youngest daughter lives in Anchorage, Alaska, where she is an audiologist at a Veterans Hospital; her oldest daughter lives in Boston and works with the disabled; and her son has Down’s syndrome and is a contributing member of his community, has 3 part-time jobs, and loves life! Nancy was married for 34 years to Dr. James Clayburgh, a well known cardiologist in the Seacoast area until his passing in 2020.
